The great bronze Buddha of Kamakura, the former capital city of Japan, is 11.4 metres high. He was cast in 1252 and was housed in various buildings over the centuries, all of which were destroyed by typhoons and tsumamis. The Buddha outlived them all, and you can still visit him at the Kotoku-in Temple in Kamakura.
